Days 1–2: Copenhagen 🇩🇰

Begin in Copenhagen, a city that feels both historic and modern at the same time. Stroll along Nyhavn, where rows of colourful houses are reflected in the water and cafés are buzzing with life. Spend an afternoon at Tivoli Gardens, one of the world’s oldest amusement parks, where twinkling lights and live music create a fairytale atmosphere after dark. The next day, step inside Rosenborg Castle to see Denmark’s crown jewels. On your way back, you can explore leafy parks en route to Reffen, a street food market full of energy and global flavours. If you want to experience the city like a local and save on travel costs, we recommend renting a bicycle! Also, if you’re looking to save on both attractions and transport, check out the Copenhagen Card. It’s an all-inclusive card that covers admission to 80+ attractions and includes public transportation in and around Copenhagen.

Days 3–4: Stockholm 🇸🇪

The next stop is Stockholm. The train ride takes five to six hours from Denmark, or you can fly in under an hour. The city is spread across 14 islands, which means that water is never far away. Start in Gamla Stan, the Old Town, where cobbled lanes and pastel buildings will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. At the Vasa Museum, you’ll find a 17th-century warship that spent more than 300 years underwater before being raised. For something more contemporary, check out Fotografiska, which showcases world-class photography and has a rooftop café with sweeping views. Do not miss the chance to get out on the water yourself by going on a boat trip through the archipelago. Between sights, pause for “fika”, which is the Swedish tradition of slowing down, by pausing for coffee and something sweet. The ultimate combo? A coffee and cinnamon bun!

Days 5–6: Oslo 🇳🇴

From Stockholm, take the scenic six-hour train to Oslo. The Norwegian capital feels modern, but nature is always nearby. Start with the Viking Ship Museum, where ancient vessels tell stories of seafaring life. Next, walk through Vigeland Park, a vast space filled with hundreds of striking sculptures. Also, be sure to visit the Opera House, a striking architectural structure featuring a sloping roof that you can climb for panoramic views across the harbour. And, to fully take in the beauty of Oslo, take a fjord cruise to encounter breathtaking scenery. Small islands, forests, and quiet inlets await just beyond the city. As is the case with most Scandinavian cities, Oslo can be expensive. A good hack is to make sure you pick up snacks before heading out for the day to balance your budget.

Day 7: Wrap Up or Bonus Stop

If you are heading back to Copenhagen and have an extra day to spare, you can slot in Gothenburg. Sweden’s laid-back food capital sits neatly between Copenhagen and Stockholm, making it an ideal spot for a last-minute detour.

Practical Tips for Your Scandi Circuit

Scandinavia has a reputation for being pricey, but there are ways to keep costs down. Tap water is free everywhere, public transport is reliable, and street food markets are great for budget-friendly meals. Trains are the most scenic way to travel, while overnight ferries offer both transport and accommodation. For long sunny days, plan your trip between May and September. And if you are after a cosy, wintry feel (think Christmas markets and snow), December is the month to visit!
