This is not your average blueberry pie; this is a super blue, super moist, superbly scrumptious blueberry pie. The amazing Mustikkapiirakka (Finnish for blueberry pie) is easy to make and makes the perfect dessert for a cosy winter evening.

As is characteristic of Finnish Cuisine, this pie is an amalgamation of traditional and haute cuisine. Despite being similar to Swedish cuisine, Finnish Cuisine demonstrates a tendency towards unsweetened flavours. Fish and meat can be found in most main dishes, while at bakeries you will notice a preference for wholemeal products such as rye, barley, and oats. Additionally, milk, and its derivative buttermilk, are also key ingredients in most Finnish recipes.

Artic berries are also a Finnish favourite! Due to their strong flavour, nutritional value, and vast availability, berries can be found in many Finnish Recipes. Berry-picking in the forests is a common activity. They are usually gathered and consumed fresh in the summer and frozen for the winter. They make a frequent appearance in homemade juices and jams, as well as desserts. Which brings us to this delicious blueberry pie!
